1.                  Open the folder Surreal and use lesson 1 Surreal landscape. Use the files

Balloon.psd, Dry landscape, and Stone Head.psd. for lesson 1.


Practice 1.  open the stock photo file folder. Using  one of the backgrounds, tunnel.psd, bed.psd,  assemble  as many of the other images to fool the viewer’s eye into accepting the illusion that all the components are assembled together in a single surreal space *.  Use dropped shadows to simulate real lighting. Change the scale of the objects for a shocking effect.

*sur·re·al·ism (s-r¶“…-l¹z”…m) n. 1. A 20th-century literary and artistic movement that attempts to express the workings of the subconscious and is characterized by fantastic imagery and incongruous juxtaposition of subject matter.

Note: Study the painters  Rene Magritte, Salvador Dali, and Giorgio De Chirico.

Assignment 1. Using your own digital photographs do your own Surrealistic landscape. Upload a jpeg file using your first initial and your last name into the Assignment 1 folder.

2.                  Open the folder Cast Shadows and use lesson 2: Cast Shadows. Use the files Brook in the Tunnel.psd  for lesson 2

 

Practice  2. Open the stock photo file folder. Open one of the College backgrounds files and drag in one of the models files. Next pull in one or more animals.  Produce cast shadows from all subjects to look realistic. To make this project fair you may only use the stock images in this folder. 

Assignment 2. Using your own digital photographs do your own Cast Shadow Picture. Upload a jpeg file using your first initial and your last name into the Assignment 2 folder.

 

3.                  Open the folder New Background and use lesson 3: Use the files face paint.psd and window.psd for lesson 3

 

Practice 3. Open the stock photo file folder. Open two subjects.psd, using extract plus other methods put a new background behind the two guys.  Use any stock background. 

Note: Ask me to demonstrate the History brush.

Assignment 3. Using one or more digital self portraits and your own background try to express your own personality in this  Picture. Upload a jpeg file using your first initial and your last name into the Assignment 3 folder. 

 

4.                  Open the folder Fixing a Photo and use lesson 4: Use the file Shirley.psd for lesson 4

 

Practice 4. Open the stock photo file folder. Repair the file1870.psd.  Work on the rip using the clone stamp tool and take out the dust and scratches. 

Note: Make sure you do not null out any texture or details of this image.

Assignment 4. Bring in and scan a real damaged photograph and fix/repair it. Display both the damaged photograph (on the left) and your repaired one on the right. Upload only one jpg file using your first initial and your last name into the Assignment 4 folder. 

 

5.         Open the folder Brochure and use lesson 5.  Use the files 1a.psd, 13a.psd, and 22a.psd for lesson 5. Practice 5.  Open the Stock Photo file folder. Using these different pictures and text, create your own vacation brochure. Make your Brochure different then lesson 5 but use the similar techniques learned.

          Assignment 5. Using your own digital images create a  Brochure for a real company.  Upload a jpeg file using your first initial and your last name into the Assignment 5 folder. 

 

 

6.         Open the folder Cup Logo and use lesson 6.  Use the file cup logo.psd  for lesson 6. Practice 6;  Open the Stock Photo file folder. Create your own logo using the stock file cup-1.psd and place it on the cup using the 3D transform filter.

        Assignment 6. Using your own digital Logo do your own cup or 3D object.  Upload a jpeg file using your first initial and your last name into the Assignment 6 folder.          

        

7.         Open the folder Displacement Map and use lesson 7.  Use the file Displacement map.psd for lesson 7. Practice 7 Open the Stock Photo file folder See the file displacement map project.psd

         Assignment 7(Wear a plain t-shirt to class and use a digital camera). Upload your T-shirt with a slogan as a jpg file using your first initial and your last name into the Assignment 7 folder. 

 

8.         Open the folder Panoramic and use lesson 8.  Use the file start-backyard 180.psd for lesson 8. practice 8   Open the Stock Photo file folder to see three samples of panoramic views. Using a tripod and digital camera or film camera, find a suitable location to create a 180-degree panoramic scene.  Depending on the focal length used, 5-8 shots will be needed.  Set the image size on the digital camera to 1024x768.

         Assignment 8. Using your own digital images create a 180 panoramic view of your own landscape.   Upload a jpeg file using your first initial and your last name into the Assignment 8 folder. Due March 9

 

 

9.         Open the folder Framed with Clipping Mask and use Lesson 9. Use the file Framing.psd for lesson 9. Practice 9;   Open the Stock Photo file folder to see three stock samples images, hard hat.psd, In the Navy.psd, and yellow sunglasses.psd. You may practice using these three files to make frames with clipping mask. You may also use a black or color  layers instead of white on some. You may also use styles on the layers.

         Assignment 9.  Using your own  three digital photographs make  three samples frames with clipping mask.  Upload your three psd files. If this seem confusing talk to me in class. using your first initial and your last name into the Assignment 9 folder. 

 DUE March 12

 

10.              Open the folder Coloring a Black & White Photo and use Lesson 10. Use the file    Coloring B&W.psd for lesson 10. Practice  10 Open the stock photos folder and choose one of the five Black and White Photos. Tint the Photo and remember to flatten before handing in your file.

         Assignment 10. Using your own digital B&W Photograph do your own Coloring job.  Upload a jpeg file using your first initial and your last name into the Assignment 10 folder.

11.              Open the folder Web Photo Gallery  and use Lesson 11. Follow the lesson carefully using Photoshop and the Web Stock Gallery. Assignment 11;  Create your own personal Web Photo Gallery. Make an opening page in Photoshop and size the images about the same size as in the lessons. 500-800 KB uncompressed

 Do not upload  Your Photoshop Web Photo Gallery will be critiqued in class

Due March 21 and show to the class after spring break

12.                 Open the folder Recording an Action  and use Lesson 12. Follow the lesson carefully using Photoshop and the File chtulhu head.psd. Assignment12  Create two original new actions using techniques learned in the lessons. Save it to your set or make a new set.

        Assignment 12. .  Upload your  two (.atn) files into the assignment 12 folder using your first initial and your last name. Due April 4

13.    Open the file Rock Bridge High.ppt in the 354 powerpoint folder and the Rock  Bridge High.jpg in the 13- Vanishing point folder. Using the Rock Bridge High.ppt file  learn the vanishing point filter techniques of Alt+Shift or Option+Shift (Mac) Assignment 13; Using your own shot of a building needing more windows. Add them and  Upload  a canvas that has the before and after in one file to Assignment 13 folder.

Note: Please resample to 600 pixels at 72ppi and use jpg

Due April 9

14. No lesson; Assignment 14;  Forced perspectiveForce a small object into a large world or force a large object into a small world. Go to the folder Extra>forced perspective and study all the photographs.

    Assignment 14. Using your own digital images do your own forced perspective.  Upload a jpeg file using your first initial and your last name into the Assignment 14 folder. Due April 13

15. A demo will be given using the 3D program Bryce 5.5 Assignment 16; create your own Bryce 3D world Assignment 15. Using your own Bryce 3D digital world upload a jpeg file using your first initial and your last name into the Assignment 15 folder. Go to these great web sites to learn more about Bryce

)Note: For assignments 16 and 17 you may want to make  high quality prints, work your own  web page, etc. Do not wait to the last minute! No printing after April 27 using the printers in my in my office.

16. Assignment 16;   project student choice. Present you idea to me and the class Assignment 16. Using your own concept.  Upload a jpeg file using your first initial and your last name into the Assignment 16 folder. Due April 27 Last class day

17 Assignment 17 Final project student choice( This is not the same project as Assignment 16) Work on your own and present on Examination day Assignment 17

NOTE: This project will be presented to the class on May 2, 2:30-4:30.  Please have project 17 ready  on USB drive or other media. I have decided that uploading is not required and I have taken down folder 17.

         DUE on Final Examination day Wednesday, May 2,  2:30-4:30 p.m.
