Spotlight Patty Anderson, senior evening and graduate admissions counselor, was profiled by Women’s Network, a professional organization that connects, empowers and engages members through leadership development, educational opportunities and innovative outreach. Read the profile here.

Dr. Tonia Compton, assistant professor of history, was elected to be president of Alpha Chi National College Honor Society’s Region IV. She will serve a two-year term coordinating the activities for all Alpha Chi member schools in the region, which includes chapters in Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota.

Columbia College was recognized as Missouri’s most popular online college by SR Education Group in its “Guide to Online Schools.” The college also was recognized in Military Times’ “Best for Vets: Business Schools 2014” list.

A feature was written on Peter Monacell, professor of English, in the Columbia Daily Tribune. The article focuses on his work on poetry about suburbs.

The Missouri Department of Higher Education and the Missouri Community College Association were chosen to start a competency-based education jump-start program that is meant to increase college completion rates. Dr. Terry Smith, interim president, was interviewed on KOMU 8 about the program and how it will help Missouri students.

Bo Bedilion, assistant professor of art at the college, co-organized “Empty Bowls,” an event to fight hunger. Participants chose a bowl that was designed by a local artist and then picked a soup to eat. Bedilion made more than 200 bowls for the event. Proceeds benefited Loaves and Fishes, a local soup kitchen.

Columbia College received two Communicator Awards of Distinction for the 2013 Annual Report. Produced through a joint effort by the Development and Public Relations departments, the Annual Report was honored for overall excellence and for copy/writing.
