Denver campus faculty achievements
Meet three faculty members who are making a difference.
The Columbia College-Denver campus is very proud of the achievements of its faculty. The following are just some of their recent accomplishments:
Dennis Dunkin has taught English for the Denver campus for 30 years. His teaching efforts recently were recognized through his nomination for excellence in teaching at Front Range Community College.
Jeff Benson, who teaches in the MBA program, hosted a workshop in May entitled "Flipped Learning for Institutions and Staff Training" to investigate innovative ways of applying flipped learning. The Flipped Learning Network describes this type of learning as what occurs "when direct instruction is moved from the group teaching space to the individual learning environment. Class time is then used for active problem-solving by students and one-to-one or small group interactions with the teacher."
Guest presenters included Dr. Kari Arfstrom, executive director of the Flipped Learning Network, and Jerry Overmyer of the University of Northern Colorado. Benson currently is working on an article to be published by TrainingIndustry.com addressing flipped learning in the corporate setting. Benson also hosted a workshop in June exploring MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) and their implications for higher education.
Dr. Vlaidimir Zivkovic, a new addition to the campus, teaches geology and environmental science. Dr. Zivkovic recently was elected to the board for the Union Colony Preparatory Schools.
