Sarah Brinkmeier

Please welcome the new Director of Columbia College-Freeport.

When did you start working for Columbia College-Freeport?
I started working at Columbia College as an adjunct instructor in May 2011.

What excites you most about working here?
I am excited about working at the Freeport location as I know how important it is for people in rural areas to be able to access higher education close to home.

What were you doing previously?
I was the Director of Social Services and Activities and played a part of the interdisciplinary management team at Wood’s Crossing - Skilled Nursing and Assisted Living Retirement Community.

Where are you from originally?
I grew up in Pearl City, Ill., and returned to the Illinois-Wisconsin state line area to complete my required MSW internship experience.

Who or what has influenced you professionally?
Professionally I have been influenced by the coworkers and deans I worked with at the University of Illinois College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES). Namely Anne Stites, Administrative Assistant, and R. Kirby Barrick, Associate Dean of Academic Programs, who showed me the important role of forming relationships with students to help them thrive and excel as students and as future professionals.

What are some of your hobbies and interests?
I live and play in Monroe, Wis. My fiancé and I enjoy snowmobiling on the local trails and boating on the surrounding lakes and Mississippi River. My family still resides in Pearl City, Ill., and continues to enjoy farming and maintaining the family farm.
