Job Seeker's Responsibilities
- Supply accurate information on your resume, during the interview process and to your references. Stretching the truth, even a little bit, will probably come back to haunt you.
- Interview with companies that you are genuinely interested in and whose requirements you can meet. Interviewing for practice wastes the recruiter's time, and prevents a sincere candidate from interviewing and ultimately, can harm the recruiting relationship between employer and Columbia College.
- Show up for information sessions, mock interviews and campus interviews. Twenty-four hour notice is required for missing any of these activities. A letter of apology written to the employer will be required if advance notice is not given. No-shows damage the school's reputation in the eyes of an employer.
- Respond to a job offer as soon as you have made up your mind so that the employer can extend the offer to someone else if you reject it. It is perfectly appropriate to request additional time to make the decision if you ask for it in advance and provide the employer with a target date for making the decision.
- Accept a job offer in good faith. Once you have accepted an offer, it is unethical to renege on that acceptance.
- If you have accepted a position or decide to go to graduate/professional school, withdraw from the job search process immediately and notify the employers with whom you are actively interviewing.
- When being reimbursed for travel expenses relating to an interview, submit only reasonable and legitimate expenses.
