OPEN POSITIONS for Summer 2013 (May 6 - July 28):
-* Office Assistant - Criminal Justice
Description: The applicant will provide assistance with files; placing information on the class and departmental website from online material; assist with general requests related to teaching/advising/research; update and maintain departmental bulletin boards; prepare correspondence and run errands to campus offices. Work hours to be arranged according to teacher and student schedule-the student will have to be available at least one afternoon and at least one morning on separate days; 10 hours, these hours may roll over into fall. Qualifications: Must be Work Study eligible. The applicant must be flexible and available to work varied hours; come as scheduled on a consistent basis; ability to work as a team player; good computer and communication skills.
-* Admissions Telecounselor
Description: Telecounselor duties are as follows: communicate with prospective and admitted Columbia College students over the phone regarding upcoming campus events and deadlines that pertain to becoming a CC student. Work hours vary, Monday - Thursday late afternoon and early evening, 8 hours; these hours are for summer only. Qualifications: Must be Work Study eligible. The applicant must be pleasant and personable on the phone and able to professionally represent Columbia College. They should be comfortable working with others and self-motived when given a task. Preferred: experience in a customer service roll and basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
-* AHE - Personnel
Description: The student worker will help with the following tasks: AP filing, making copies, voucher assembly, and delivery as needed; organization and maintenance of state files; help prepare for bi-annual director's conference which includes making copies, assembling binders, set-up and tear down of conference; data entry as needed for budget and personnel office projects; help front office with projects as needed; maintain organization of break room; other duties as assigned. Work hours are Flexible, 14 hours; these hours are for summer only. Qualifications: Must be Work Study eligible. Applicants must be able to multi-task and prioritize based on deadlines. Strong computer and analytical skills required.
-* Mail and Print Services
Description: Provide assistance to full time Mail and Print Services employees to manage postal, small package and campus mail receiving, delivery, processing and distribution. Process (fold, tab or insert) printed matter according to USPS and Columbia College standards. Assist with handwork required for job completion (fold, staple, insert, sort, apply stamps, seal envelopes, etc.) Lift boxes up to 30 pounds. Capable of basic Windows computer operation to include package receiving, shipping and delivery software. Work hours flexible Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.; 80 hours; these hours may roll over into fall. Qualifications: Must be Work Study eligible. The applicant must have a high school diploma, ability to regularly lift and carry 15 pounds and work a consistent schedule. Preferred qualifications: The applicant must be familiar with Microsoft Office Suite; mail center operations and the college environment.
-* Science - Laboratory Assistant/Technician
Description: Provide assistance with general lab maintenance and cleanliness; assist with lab preparation and setting up class materials; working directly with instructors to meet class specific needs; making solutions and reagents by Molarity and percent solution (w/v ; v/v); assist with inventory on chemicals and supplies; display customer service skills when working with instructors and students; stocking incoming chemicals and supplies in their respective storage areas. All other duties as assigned. Work hours flexible. 15 hours; these hours may roll over into fall. Qualifications: Must be Work Study eligible. The applicant must be willing to learn new lab techniques as needed; have strong science and laboratory background, however, those willing to learn practices and techniques are welcome as well. -* Network Services Assistant - Tech Services
Description: The Network Services Assistant position will work with the College's Network Services staff in monitoring, maintaining, and setting up various parts of the network infrastructure for Columbia College. Work hours vary, 20 hours; these may roll over into the fall. Qualifications: Must be Work Study eligible. The applicant must strive for excellence in customer service and function as a proactive customer advocate; have strong technical troubleshooting skills; communicate clearly and accurately in verbal and written format. Description: Office Assistant duties are as follows: Work the front desk; Open and log all incoming mail/process returned mail; data entry; assist Admissions Counselors in communicating with prospective students; Aide Operations Staff in processing and preparing student files; Prepare and send out mailings and letters/emails; Assist and setup for Admissions Sponsored campus events; Inventory management of publications and promotional items; Special projects as needed; other duties as assigned. -* Campus Safety Student Assistant
Description: The Student Assistant will primarily serve as a building monitor, but may also be asked to assist Campus Safety Officers in various tasks. The duties of the Student Assistant may include providing a physical presence as a building monitor at the Federal Hall, filing parking tickets and other various documents, assisting Campus Safety officers with patrols and inspections and providing customer service to students and staff at various campus locations. Work hours are Flexible evenings; 20 hours open all may roll over to the fall. Qualifications: Must be Work Study or Work Program eligible. Applicant must be professional in attitude and demeanor, as well as attentive and responsible. Applicant should have good customer skills and have the ability to walk for an extensive amount of time.
-* Development Office - Student Assistant
Description: Student Assistant will work with Development staff, often on time-sensitive projects. Duties include greeting visitors and answering the telephone, executing mass mailings, compiling spreadsheets, and assisting with the coordination of formal events. Work hours are Monday - Friday/Flexible with preferred 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. begin covered; 20 hours only for summer. Qualifications: Must be Work Study or Work Program eligible. Applicant must be able to multi-task under deadlines. Previous customer service and data entry experience with knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite is preferred. -* Financial Aid Work Study - Packaging
Description: The Financial Aid Work Study will run degree audits, assist with electronic loan certification, send electronic checklists, assist in completing consortiums, work assigned packaging reports, and complete various tasks as assigned. Work hours are Monday - Friday Between 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., 30 hours; 25 of these hours may roll over into the fall. Qualifications: Must be Work Study eligible. Strong attention to detail and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) is required.

Description: Financial Aid Work Study will be sending electronic checklists, analysis of verification documents like federal taxes; FAFSA; and other documents; assist with footprint tickets; and various other tasks as assigned. Work hours are Monday - Friday Between 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., 10 hours available. Qualifications: Must be Work Study eligible. -* Events, Protocol and Design Student Assistant
Description: The applicant will assist with general office duties (e.g., answer phones, file, assemble packets, prepare envelopes for mailings, transpose written meeting notes to word document; complete journal entries; assist with preparation & set up of activities and events; fill promotional item orders received, prepare & deliver to MPS; keep inventory of promotional items; keep promotional item shelves organized and stocked in STC 3 and in storage area; deliver, pull & restock various items from Dulany Storage room. -* Grossnickle Career Services Office Assistant
Description: The applicant will provide assistance with the following tasks; searching and entering jobs and/or internships into the online system CCNET; update job board and listings weekly; make telephone calls to keep updated information for internship opportunities; create flyers/posters for job announcements using PowerPoint and Word; assist with the annual career fair. The applicant will assist with making phone calls to past graduates, assist with various projects throughout the year and assist with information booths to promote Career Services. Work hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. , 10 hours; these hours may roll over into the fall. Qualifications: Must be Work Study eligible. Applicant must be able to work independently and as a team. Ability to multi-task. A student must be able to sit at a computer for 2+ hours at a time. -* Online Campus Student Assistant
Description: The applicants duties include creating transcripts and captions to accompany videos; open, log and file transcripts; file instructor contacts; data entry; assist with opening and pre-packaging promotional items used by recruiters; assist recruiters with packing/unpacking promotional materials and literature before and after events. Other duties as assigned. Work hours are Flexible, 20 hours; 20 of these hours may roll over into the fall. Qualifications: Must be Work Study eligible. -* Project Management Assistant - Tech Services
Description: Assist the Director of Project Management and Associate Project Manager with clerical tasks, including updating project information, inputting new projects and creating reports. In addition, the employee will be expected to schedule meetings, create agendas and send to the team members, attend project meetings and take notes and send notes to the project team. Work hours are 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Days are Flexible; 20 hours per week. Qualifications: Must be Work Study eligible. Skills with MS Office, ability to type 50 words per minute.
-* Technology Services Lab Assistant
Description: The Lab Assistant position involves the monitoring of the Columbia College open computer labs in Buchanan Hall, The Tenth Street Center, and/or Federal Hall. When in Buchanan Hall the lab assistant will also assist instructors as needed in the two classroom computer labs. Lab Assistants will assist customers in troubleshooting basic computer problems as well as attending to lab hardware (computers, printer, scanner, and copier). More complex software and hardware will be escalated to the Lab Coordinator for resolution. Work hours are Flexible, 91 hours; these hours may roll over into the fall. Qualifications: Must be Work Study or Work Program eligible. The Lab Assistant must strive for excellence in customer service and function as a proactive customer advocate; have strong technical troubleshooting skills; proficient skills in Microsoft applications and operating systems, including Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, Outlook and Windows 7; communicate clearly and accurately in verbal and written format, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical clients and users; a high level of energy and outgoing personality, as well as the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a minimum of direction. Description: The Technology Services Office Assistant will be responsible for customer service, filing, data entry, making copies, scanning, sorting and distributing incoming mail, maintaining office supplies and inventory, and miscellaneous errands around campus. Work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., 20 hours; 20 of these hours may roll over into the fall. Qualifications: Must be Work Study eligible. The student that fills this position should be punctual; detail oriented, self-motivated and must have strong organizational skills.
-* Tech Services - End User Support Assistant
Description: The applicant will assist with work station and software deployment. Duties include setting up computers and preparing them for staff use. Job will also include other duties as assigned. Work hours flexible. 16 hours per week. Some weekend work may be required. Work hours are Monday - Friday/Flexible, 40 hours; 20 of these hours may roll over into the fall. Qualifications: Must be Work Study or Work Program eligible. The applicant must have extensive experience with computer hardware and software; experience with troubleshooting technology equipment; ability to multitask and learn quickly. Description: The applicant must greet students, collect VA paperwork, assist with filing, faxing and scanning. Description: Office Assistant will fulfill filing duties for folders, and applications. Office Assistant will help with creating student IDs, student authentications. Description: This position reports to the Director of the Freeport campus. The student will assist in the organization; implementation of Campus Graduation Ceremony; maintenance of campus scholarship database; hold office hours for tutoring and website navigation skill teaching. The student will assist in identifying needs of walk-in students and prospects to make appropriate referral to campus team members. The student will answer the multi-line phone system, assist caller, transfer calls accordingly; assist with day-to-day clerical functions; assist with all outgoing mail, shipping; coordinate, contribute to the success of recruitment and retention programs, and other duties as assigned. -* Math Tutor - Bruce Math Center
Description: The applicant will provide individualized academic support designed to improve a student's understanding of math problems and concepts. Assist full time staff with other activities required to keep the Center presentable such as tidying tables, sharpening pencils, etc. Work hours vary, Monday - Thursday 8:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m., Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. 13 hours; these hours are for summer only. Qualifications: Must be Work Study or Work Program eligible. The applicant must be proficient in mathematics through Calculus II and have excellent communication skills. Preference given to students preparing to teach mathematics. A letter of recommendation from a member of the Columbia College mathematics faculty is required and should be sent directly to Susan Hughes, Coordinator of the Math Center.
-* Banks Office Assistant
Description: The applicant will sign a confidentiality agreement for Residential Life and Student Affairs; Work in the office after hours or hours when the Area Coordinator is not present during the day to provide students with access to hall amenities; provide lock-out assistance when needed; know the resources on campus in case students need a referral to some other area; ensure storage and supply areas are kept accessible and tidy. The applicant is required to make weekly check of lounges to ensure furniture and accessories are as they should be; weekly meeting with Area Coordinator about position and personal development. The applicant will answer phones when necessary; deliver and retrieve items from MPS; design and distribute marketing materials for events, hall closure, important information for students, break housing information, etc. (Marketing is not limited to these items.); assist Area Coordinator in reviewing , scanning and filing paper. The applicant will be responsible for keeping Campus Event boards clean looking by organizing material and removing outdated information. Other duties as assigned. Description: The Institutional Research office provides technical, organizational and analytical support for a broad range of Columbia College data needs, originating both internally and externally. The Institutional Research Assistant position will support a broad range of data support needs. The responsibilities or the applicant will be general data entry; creation of forms and templates; process mapping and data dictionary documentation; creating and updating spreadsheets. Work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 20 hours available. Qualifications: Must be Work Study eligible. Description: The applicant will provide assistance for the following tasks, day to day administrative task; develop forms, spread sheets, and PowerPoint slides; answer phones; post fliers and update bulletin boards in Miller Hall; create promotional material for Residential Life programs; assist with Residential Programs and Activities; room lock outs and equipment check out. Description: Provide assistance with the following tasks: Building and maintaining established relationships with area agencies as a representative of the Education Department: Boys and Girls Club, Moving Ahead in the Blind Boone Center, Ped Net Walking School Bus, and Granny's House. Current distance from Columbia College to agencies is less than 1 mile. The applicant will be observing and providing feedback to students and the instructors (Dr. Weston and Dr. VanDover) in Service Learning Placements. The applicant will compile data and training information for a resource notebook on the agencies. Work hours are Monday - Friday 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. varied hours; 5 hours available. Qualifications: Must be Work Study eligible. The applicant must be flexible and available to work varied hours. The applicant must be courteous, friendly, and polite. -* Student Development Office Wellness Education Creative Specialist
Description: The Wellness Education Creative Specialist will research, plan and create educational displays and implement wellness and prevention education events hosted by the office of Student Development. They will develop advertising, publicity and facilitation of passive programming and special events. They will also design and implement a social norming campaign each semester. With the tabling of the Peer Education program, this position will provide majority of the prevention outreach for the day campus population and carry out national prevention campaigns. Work hours are Flexible Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 10 hours available. Qualifications: Must be Work Study eligible. Applicant must be able to work in a very fast paced, ever changing environment and have the ability to multi-task. Applicant must be a self-starter and able to work independently. Creative and artistic skills are a must. Experience with customer service and proficiency on the computer, utilizing Microsoft Office; PowerPoint, Prezi and Adobe Creative Design program, is preferred. They will be utilized to research and create advertising and marketing for the office's programs including computer generated flyers, hand drawn posters and display instillations. They will also be requested to make contact with other community constituents as well as other duties as assigned.
-* Student Records and Transcripts Assistant
Description: The applicant will assist with processing transcript requests, answering calls regarding the process/status of requests, data entry of request information into Colleague, updating address information, processes payment information for priority status requests and filing/purging form and other duties as assigned. The applicant will assist with packaging/mailing diplomas, proofreading transcripts and mailing labels, completing the posting status in Colleague and compilation of graduation letters in guard covers for Commencement. They also assist with scanning registration documents and various forms and indexing into OnBase, completing verifications for outside agencies via forms, filing of all registration forms from nationwide campuses, various Commencement related activities, preparing form packets for Connections events and Advising Week. Work hours are Flexible Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 15 hours available. Qualifications: Must be Work Study eligible. The applicant must be able to work a consistent schedule; have attention to detail; have an outgoing/friendly attitude; be dependable and trustworthy. Preferred qualification: Filing experience.
-* Sports Information student worker (Athletics Office)
Description: Office Assistant serves as statistical keeper for all sports and includes working during games and other athletic events. Assistant will spend majority of time inputting data and filing for department. Work hours are Flexible; 15 hours available. Qualifications: Must be Work Study eligible. Applicant must be able to work in a very fast paced, ever changing environment. Ability to multi-task and be flexible with hours. Experience with creative suite and Microsoft office preferred.
