Columbia College seeks a part-time Peer Tutor who will provides one-on-one instruction to students of various ages, backgrounds, and abilities in courses ranging from Beginning Algebra to College Algebra, Finite Math and Pre-Calculus. Some Peer Tutors will also tutor Calculus I & II, Discrete Math I as well as Statistics I. Responsibilities include: Provides individualized academic support designed to improve a student's understanding of math problems and concepts; utilizes slower times to increase familiarity with topics in courses currently tutoring, making a point to look ahead to material that will be covered in the following week. More experienced tutors will also strive to add additional courses to their expertise list; suggests problems of the day and/or week and provides ideas for bulletin board displays; and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Completion of Calculus II and Statistics I as well as a letter of recommendation from a member of mathematics faculty; excellent communication skills; prior tutoring experience is desirable.
