Celebrate National Cyber Security Awareness Month!

This October marks the sixth anniversary of National Cyber Security month. The program, initiated by the Department of Homeland Security, aims to inform and encourage Americans to exercise safe computing habits to help keep businesses and families protected from online and computing hazards. This year’s theme- shared responsibility for cyber security issues.

Technology Services is supporting this event with the new Cougar Security Awareness Month website, weekly security TechTips, and online contests where you can win valuable prizes all month. The contests, tips, and site are open to all faculty and staff from the main and AHE campuses.

October Security Awareness Workshops

Attend two special workshops on cyber security in October. Cyber Security at Columbia College will inform you of how to protect business information and computing resources at work. Cyber Security for your family focuses on the tools and information to keep you and your family cyber safe at home and online. Sign up today or check out the full details here.

Tuesday TechTips

The ever popular Tuesday TechTip takes on computer security issues this month. A new tip will be delivered to the email inbox of all main campus and AHE faculty and staff each Tuesday. Each Tip will focus on a new security issue each week. TechTips planned for the month: How to create a strong password, securing information at work, and keeping your family safe online. You can access archived tips as well and even use our new feature to watch the tips in action.

Online Contests

All faculty and staff are invited to participate in our online contests this month. Each puzzle or quiz will be made available online for one week. Just complete the security awareness themed puzzle, follow the directions, and send the results in via email or internal department delivery system by the due date. Top scores on each puzzle will be entered to win one of three gift certificates. Follow the links in the weekly Tuesday TechTip to get the full details of each puzzle or quiz.
