Eliminate your baggage

Use network storage

and leave floppy disks and flash drives at home.

Your eServices account has been expanded to allow you to access public computers on campus, including those in computer labs, library, student commons and residence halls. This allows Technology Services to offer network storage and provides an added layer of security to our campus network.

Why do I have to log in to the public computers on campus?
Logging into the computers is a great security measure for students and staff. It will help to keep our computers virus free and protect everyone's files and e-mails. In addition, it will ensure that only currently enrolled students are accessing the computers, so a computer always will be available when you need one. You also no longer will need to scan your college ID card when using the computer lab.

Who gets the expanded accounts?
Accounts will be created for all Columbia College Day Campus and Evening Campus students, as well as Home Campus adjunct faculty.

Network Storage

What is network storage?
Twenty-five megabytes of network storage space are reserved for you on our Storage Area Network (SAN). If you store documents in your "Home Directory", you will be able to access and edit those documents from any computer on the Columbia College campus. This creates a reliable storage solution in which your documents are backed up nightly.

Can I access the files from off campus?
The files are currently only accessible from public computers on Columbia College's wired network.  This includes the Open Computer Lab, the Library and Classrooms.

How long can I access my account?
You will be able to access your account as long as you are an enrolled student. If you decide to take a semester off, you will not have access to the public computers on campus, but you will still have access to your eServices and CougarMail accounts.

What happens to the files I store in my Home Directory?
Your files will be saved from one term to the next. However, in order to ensure there is space for everyone, files will be deleted after nine consecutive months of non-enrollment at Columbia College.

How do I log in?
You will use the same username and password you use to access eServices, CougarMail and the wireless network. Simply reactivate your login before logging into a public computer for the first time.

What happens if I forget to log out of the computer I'm using?
All public computers will be logged out after 15 minutes of idle time. Therefore, if you do not move the mouse, or utilize the keyboard for 15 minutes all the applications you have open will be closed and the computer will log you off. A warning indicating the computer is about to be logged off will be visible after 10 minutes of idle time.

You may reactivate your login by clicking here. If you need assistance, visit the Solutions Center in the lower level of Launer Auditorium or the computer lab in Buchanan Hall, room 106.
